John was born on August 15th, 1894 in Mitford, Letton, Norfolk.¹ John's father was Albert Francis Rowland and his mother was Frances Hill. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Rowland and Hannah Heslop; his maternal grandparents were John Hill and Sarah Ann Balderson. He had three brothers and three sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named Ralph, Thomas, Donald, Kathleen, <Unknown>, <Unknown> and Eva. He died at the age of 76 on December 21st, 1970 in Empingham. The funeral took place on December 24th, 1970.¹

Warrant no. 106184 P.C. 416 joined 4/8/1919 stationed at Chelsea either Gerald Road or Walton Street. Then P.C. 461 from 1/10/1929 at Albany Street either Hampstead Station or West Hampstead. He retired 31/12/1945. 26years service. He joined the Royal Automobile Association and was involved with the route for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
