John was born in 1821 in Skellingthorpe and his christening took place in 1821.1   John's father was John Rowland and his mother was Ann Dwyer.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Rowland and Jane. He had a brother and two sisters, named Wooldridge, Jane and Mary.  He was the youngest of the four children.
