Edward was born on January 7th, 1879 in Bemerton, Wiltshire, England and his christening took place there on March 2nd, 1879.¹²

Edward's father was Edward Henry Rowland and his mother was Francis Fanny Eyres. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Rowland and Hannah Heslop; his maternal grandparents were George Eyres and Harriet Downer. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Geroge, Frank, Aly, Alfred, Margaret (Meg), Hannah, Nance and Fanny. He was the oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 63 on July 15th, 1942.
