Alfred was born in 1903. Alfred's father was Edward Henry Rowland and his mother was Alice Sarah Henderson. His paternal grandparents were Edward Henry Rowland and Francis Fanny Eyres; his maternal grandparents were Tom Henderson and Sarah. He had two brothers named Ted and Thomas. He was the second oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 68 in 1971.
