Nellie was born in 1901 in Knutsford.1  Nellie's father was Hugh Gidman and her mother was Elizabeth Drinkwater.  Her maternal grandparents were William Drinkwater and Elizabeth Willett. She had three brothers named John, Joseph and Herbert.  She was the youngest of the four children.
