James was born on June 24th, 1770.  James' father was Thomas Farmer and his mother was Elizabeth Worth.  His paternal grandparents were William Farmer and Catherine. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, William, Catherine, Mary, Elizabeth, Mary and Sarah.  He was the second youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 67 on January 1st, 1838.
