John was born on July 30th, 1911.1  John's father was James George Drinkwater and his mother was Eliza  Jane Goodier.  His paternal grandparents were William Drinkwater and Elizabeth Willett; his maternal grandparents were James Goodier and Mary Goodier. He had six brothers and two sisters, named William, James, Arnold, Ronald, Donald, Harold, Clara and Ruth.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 91 in 2002.
